Finding My Way Back: Fasting and Reconnecting with God

There was a time when my days began and ended in prayer, when my schedule was filled with church activities, and when I felt God’s presence so deeply that peace and joy followed me everywhere. In those days, I was rooted in my faith, constantly in communion with Him, and life—though not without struggles—felt full and purposeful.

But somewhere along the way, I drifted. One small compromise led to another, and before I knew it, I felt distant from the God I once walked so closely with. Don’t get me wrong—God has never stopped blessing me, and I know He hasn’t forgotten me. But I miss Him. I miss the closeness, the peace that comes from being fully surrendered, and the confidence that nothing stands between me and my Savior.

If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. And the beautiful thing about God is that He is always ready to welcome us back with open arms.

That’s why I’m choosing to fast—not just from food, but from distractions, from anything that has taken my focus off of Him. Fasting isn’t about perfection; it’s about realigning my heart, humbling myself before God, and making space for Him to move. It’s about silencing the noise so I can hear His voice again.

“Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.”

— Joel 2:12

God calls us to return to Him with our whole hearts—through repentance, prayer, and fasting. This is my way of doing just that.

What My Fast Looks Like

For the next 14 days, I’m committing to:

• Fasting from food from 6 AM to 2 PM each day. During the time I would be eating, I will intentionally pray and meditate on God’s Word.

• Giving up distractions and vices—anything that has been coming between me and God.

• Seeking His guidance for my next steps in life, ensuring I am aligned with His will.

PRAY: A Simple Guide to Prayer

When I pray, I like to follow this simple structure:

1. Praise – Thank God for all His blessings.

2. Repent – Confess and turn away from sin wholeheartedly.

3. Ask – Bring my needs, struggles, and desires before Him.

4. Yield – Surrender something to God, allowing Him to work in my life.

Fasting Tips

• Drink plenty of water—stay hydrated, especially when fasting from food.

• Start small—fasting looks different for everyone, so do what works for your body and schedule.

• Pray intentionally—God knows our hearts, but He also wants us to seek Him with purpose.

• Be specific—tell God exactly what you need and what you are seeking.

• Stay committed—it’s just 14 days, and God will honor your sacrifice and obedience.

This journey is about more than just giving something up—it’s about gaining something far greater: a deeper connection with God. If you’re feeling distant, I encourage you to take this step with me. Let’s seek Him wholeheartedly and experience the peace that only He can give.

Are you ready? Let’s do this together.
